V-Ray is available only for current School of Architecture students. To get access to the free license, you first need to create an account with ChaosGroup.
To preview what you can do with ChaosCloud, take a look at their sample results with associated time and credits used.
Note that membership for all students are revoked at the end of the school year.
Guidelines
- Ensure that GlobalProtect VPN is running and connected. Due to the recent changes in Princeton University's IT security policies, VPN is now required in order to access University resources, in this case the SoA license server. - Students receive 20 credits at the beginning of each semester.
- Any unused organizational credits will be lost at the end of each school year.
- If you run out of credits, you can do the following:
- Use the SoA Computer Lab
- Purchase your own personal credits.
- Send us a Help Request Form and ask for more credits. This will be granted on a case by case basis.
Note that membership for all students are revoked at the end of the school year and students who need it will have to reapply for a license.
Installation

Create a ChaosGroup Account

- Visit the ChaosGroup Accounts Page and create a new account using your [email protected] email address.
- Once your account is created, let the SoA IT Team know by submitting the ChaosGroup Account Notification Form.
DO NOT FORGET THIS STEP. We do not get notified by ChaosGroup that your account has been created and we are unable to provide you with the credits until then.
- Once received, we will send an invitation for you to join the ChaosCloud SoA Students Team. Ensure to check your Junk Mail folder if you do not see it in your Inbox.
- Once you accept the invitation, SoA IT Team will assign 20 organizational credits to your account. If you already have a pre-existing ChaosGroup account with remaining personal credits, they will need to be completely used up before we can assign the 20 organizational credits.
- You will be notified that 20 ChaosCloud credits have been assigned to your account. You will then be able to log in to the ChaosCloud Portal and setup V-Ray.
- Visit the ChaosGroup Accounts Page and create a new account using your [email protected] email address.

Installing and Using V-Ray for Rhino

- Ensure that you are connected to a Princeton University network; then download V-Ray for Rhino and run the installation file. Download the software here.
- You will be presented with the license agreement. Click I Agree to continue.
- Check the checkbox labeled Rhinoceros 7 and then click on the Advance button.
- Uncheck all checkboxes and press Continue.
- Click the Remote button and input the following for Primary License Server:
arcwright200w.princeton.edu:30304
- Press Install. The installer will first check for running applications and will prompt you to stop them if there are such. Then it will automatically uninstall all old versions.
- Your installation is now complete. On the last screen, uncheck the two checkboxes and click Done.
